This attractive piece features beautiful, bright, lemon-yellow, almost botryoidal, Cadmium-bearing Smithsonite with pleasing luster that has formed pseudomorphs after "dogtooth"-shaped scalenohedral Calcite crystals. Looking around the piece, there are a couple of areas where the underlying Calcite is still visible under the Smithsonite but also some areas, especially on the periphery, where it is apparent that the Smithsonite has completely pseudomorphed the Calcite and left a hollow encrustation. It's a very unique piece and these pseudomorphs were limited on the market when they were first discovered and this recent find was also limited. Very locally, the Cadmium-bearing Smithsonite is covered and included with some iron oxide staining giving it a brownish color.
