Tucson, Arizona, USAAlthough once plentiful to say the least, good specimens of the Kidney ore variety of Hematite are becoming increasingly scarce. No matter how many Hematite specimens you may have seen from this locality, there is no doubting this is a beautiful miniature example. Mamillary hemispheres of typically 0.5 to 1.5 cm diameter pile-up to form a rib-like stacked mound of rich mahogany red-brown Hematite with a lustrous patina. The base of the specimen shows off well the concentric nested shell-like internal structure. This mine sadly was closed to collectors in 2007 since when it has become completely flooded.
