Dalnegorsk is one of the world's great localities for minerals and is today known mostly for sulfides, but in its heyday produced what were at the time considered among the greatest Calcites of size. This is a very fine prismatic twin of Calcite showing sharp form and a distinct twin plane and probably came out in the 1990s and this is considered the best example of this particular twin habit. The three dimensional aspect, combined with the glassy surfaces and super-sharp angles, elevate this specimen's importance significantly. This crystal measures nearly 4 inches in length and few of this size were found and they commanded high prices in the late 1990s when they came out. Many of the larger ones needed repairs and there is one clean repair about one-third of the way from the top where a cleavage occurred (horizontally), and was perfectly and nearly seamlessly rejoined. This crystal is large, sharp, lustrous and hard to find today. It was in my own personal Calcite collection then sold to a friend who collected large crystals and twins (Robert Nowakowski) and later repatriated to me. Comes with custom display base.
