Description
This rather splendid pair of silvery-grey Galena crystals are from Tarnowskie Góry in Poland, a very old mining area where exploitation of this sulphide ore deposit began in the Middle Ages. The deposit is of Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) origin. In this miniature specimen the Galena occurs with small crystals of brassy Chalcopyrite, some crystals being tarnished to pure iridescent peacock purple. The sulphides rest on a thin yet strong plate of micro-crystallised milky Quartz. The Galena crystals have distorted angled surfaces and an aged smooth, part-polished patina. A terrific Galena with lots of character from Tarnowskie Góry in Poland.
