Calcite
What was primarily a uranium mine, yet also produced silver, has become a famous locality in the Pr'bram mining district of the Czech Republic because of its wide variety and quality of mineral species, with over 40 recorded. Although relatively seldom seen, Calcite is known to crystallise as good specimens and this large miniature forms a pair of branching scalenohedral crystals to 7.5 cm and 4.8 cm long. Each crystal is a composite stack of small scalenohedral crystals which overlap each other, all leaning out slightly with faces partly aligned epitaxially. The Calcite is colourless, transparent grading to translucent and included with speckled black Goethite with each individual crystal having a highly reflective glassy lustre. Adding that final touch, under LWUV the entire specimen fluoresces ghostly orange red. A great example of Calcite from this famous mine.
