Cuprite with NATIVE Copper
This compact and chunky miniature of a vuggy yet solid mass of Native Copper is pervaded with splendid octagonal Cuprite crystals to at least 4 mm across. This lovely specimen is from the Nizhnetagilskii Massif in the Middle Urals of Russia, a hyperbasite massif of Platinum Group Minerals (PGM) and chromite. The largest coverage of Cuprite nestles in a roughly 3 x 2 cm vug although plenty of other Cuprites are scattered all over the specimen. The Native Copper has an overall aesthetic patina of dusky red to powdery orange rouge, shot through with metallic bright copper patches. A good representative Cuprite with Native Copper from the Nizhnetagilskii Massif and is accompanied with an old handwritten label.
