You may will be familiar with the Mineralogical Record’s famous supplement in early 2010, ‘The Lindsay Greenbank Collection: Classic Minerals of Northern England’. The first chapter describes the Caldbeck Fells, a richly mineralised area of the English Lake District and illustrates well the variation in colour and habits of Campylite, a variety of Mimetite found at Dry Gill mine, high on the fell top. On this superb cabinet specimen the Mimetite ranges enormously in colour and is ex. the late Lindsay Greenbank Collection (No, LG. 187). Light pea-green to apricot-orange curved barrel-shaped crystal aggregates richly cover a long shard of milky-white vein Baryte over both sides. The Campylite barrels average 5 to 10 mm in diameter. This specimen was collected by Lindsay and Patricia Greenbank in 1971 and comes with a highly detailed label. A great Campylite from Dry Gill and with excellent provenance.
