Calcite on Quartz with Chlorite

Unknown Owner
Despite being composed from three of the most common minerals, the way in which these have crystallised and come together make for a totally eye-catching beauty! Equant semi-transparent rhombohedral crystals of smoky-lemon-buff Calcite to 8 mm are aesthetically scattered over a group of Quartz crystals totally obscured by intensely dark green (appearing as black) crystallised Chlorite. From Puiva Mount in Tyumenskaya Oblast', Russia, the crystal habit of the Quartz beneath the Chlorite is perfectly preserved, with the two largest Quartz crystals measuring around 3 cm tall. Where the Quartz is not obscured by chlorite crystals, it is glassy and highly reflective. The Chlorite occurs as sub-mm platelets forming books and worm-like structures. Simply beautiful!
