Calcite
This handsome ex-matrix Calcite crystal from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia displays a distinct hexagonal cross-section with six prism faces of alternating broad and narrow width. The crystal has a cleaved base and trigonal termination with pure white prism faces and a slightly yellow-buff tinged termination. All the outer faces have a fine coating of sucrosic micro-crystallised Calcite. On some prism faces, sub-millimetre spheres of what is probably Conichalcite are scattered, these also overgrown with Calcite. The crystal has some, but not all characteristics of both the famous 'ice cream pocket' and 'crystal palace' pocket, but will require real expert advice to make any firm conclusion.
