Calcite
This interesting specimen of cobalt bearing pink Calcite is from Tynebottom mine at Garrigill on Alston Moor, eastern Cumbria, England. This Calcite is a post-mining deposit, a well-known occurrence within this mine. The Calcite occurs as a flowstone deposit over blocks of detached dark grey country rock. This is a particularly good example because the Calcite forms a 3.5 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm bubbly mass of translucent coral pink on a thin, crusty coating of pale apple-green flowstone. This comes with an ex. Willian Creighton Mineral Museum stock label, a haunt many collectors will fondly remember.
