This large cabinet size Wulfenite is a top museum quality specimen from the world famous Me'ica mining district in Slovenia, only about 3 km from the border with Austria. This 16 cm long specimen is composed almost entirely of Wulfenite, with what appears to be a thin discontinuous shell of light grey Calcite embedded within, so forming the long open cavity. The specimen is encrusted with bright zesty orange to acidic lemon tabular Wulfenite crystals which form simple square or rectangular prisms with unmodified edges or corners. However, each crystal is formed from a series of interlayered alternating colours of Wulfenite which manifest as sandwiched layers around each prism edge. The Wulfenite crystals are typically 4 to 8 mm on edge, yet frequently attain 1, 1.5 and even 1.9 cm. Covering the Wulfenite crystals encrusting the base of the specimen is a very fine granulated straw-yellow mineral, possibly Wulfenite or even a fine clay, but adds texture and character. This is a magnificent Wulfenite from Me'ica, once which will stand proud in any cabinet.
