A classic and aesthetic specimen of translucent milky white Witherite on Alstonite from Fallowfield mine, north of the village of Acomb, Hexham in Northumberland, England. Two Witherite crystals are perfectly displayed on this small cabinet specimen as two major intergrown, steep pyramidal crystals measuring to 4 cm tall, with a twin peak appearance. A smaller crystal protrudes from near the base of the two lager crystals, with another Witherite crystal grown at an oblique angle from the matrix. The Witherite sits on a drusy bed of spiky Alstonite crystals which range from colourless to faintly tinted pink and cover a milky Calcite matrix containing blebs of Galena. An excellent Witherite from Fallowfield mine, this being the type locality of Alstonite. Under LWUV the Witherite fluoresces mid to reasonably bright smoky buff yellow. A first class Witherite on Alstonite which will grace the finest of collections of British minerals.
