A west Cumbrian classic from the famous Florence mine at Egremont. This is an attractive small cabinet sized thin plate of layered botryoidal Hematite, var. Kidney Ore coated in places with razor sharp bladed crystals of glossy black metallic Specular Hematite, or Specularite, and in other areas with bipyramidal Quartz crystals. The Quartz crystals are not the smoky sort, but are colourless to white, with inclusions of Specularite. The layers of botryoidal Hematite give the impression of an onion skin and between them are bands of sparkling black Specularite.
