Dolomite with Marcasite
An intergrown mass of creamy tan Dolomite crystals hosting elongated blades of chocolate brown to brass-yellow crystals of the iron sulphide, Marcasite. This fine example of crystallised Marcasite is from Mowbray mine near Frizington in the West Cumberland Iron Field, England. During the heyday of iron mining in this region, the county name was Cumberland, but in 1974 the county boundaries were changed and it was renamed Cumbria. This fine specimen comes with the two previous owner's labels and associated information.
