The specimen is composed entirely of Manganite with the top surface covered with euhedral (fully developed) crystals, typically of between 1 to 1.5 cm long and 3 to 6 mm broad. The crystals are jet-black and of a very bright metallic lustre, with vertically striated prism faces and scale-like patterned, flat pinacoid terminations. A beautiful and classic specimen of Manganite from Ilfeld in Germany.
