Tucson, Arizona, USAThis great miniature of Axinite-(Fe) with Quartz is from the Obira mine in Oita Prefecture, Japan, a Miocene copper-zinc-arsenic-tin vein deposit with injected boron and fluorine greisen-induced adjacent skarns. The Axinite-(Fe) forms broad tabular translucent clove brown crystals of up to 0.9 cm wide which densely cover a flat matrix of solid granular Axinite. Acicular prismatic Quartz crystals also to about 0.9 cm are sparsely scattered amongst the Axinite-(Fe). A good example from the Obira mine in Japan.
