Galena
A superb miniature of cuboctahedral Galena crystals from the famous discovery at Mogul mine in the Silvermines District of County Tipperary, Ireland. The Galena occurs with a little creamy crystallised Dolomite and minor granular Pyrite, the latter remaining stable, having been mined over 40 years ago. The Galena crystals are intergrown yet the largest, at over 3 cm across, displays many excellent faces of the combined cube and octahedral forms with bright lustrous silver metallic faces. The majority of these specimens were recovered from a single find in the 2-W-6 section named the “Great Vug”, most of which were brought back to Cornwall by mineral dealer Richard Barstow. This story is evocatively described in Roy Starkey’s account in the UK Journal of Mines & Minerals, No. 31, 2010. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire one of these now legendary Galena specimens.
