Tucson, Arizona, USAThe magnesite deposit at Oberdorf an der Laming in Styria, Austria, is one of the world’s greatest localities for the strontium carbonate Strontianite, where magnificent crystals can be found. Although it pains me to admit it, these crystals are in completely different league to anything found at the type locality at Strontian, besides Loch Sunart on the west coast of Scotland. In this small cabinet specimen, superb, highly lustrous prismatic crystals of Strontianite measuring up to 1.5 cm long are aesthetically aggregated over a white crystallised cellular matrix of tiny Calcite crystals. The Strontianite crystals are double terminated wherever space has allowed and all are colourless, grading to subtly tinted pale yellow gemmy-translucent terminations. It is a magnificent example of Strontianite from this most classic of European localities.\n
