An 8 x 6.5 cm ovalised ironstone matrix is richly coated with at least 14 perfectly terminated, transparent Calcite crystals from Bigrigg mine near to the town of Egremont in west Cumbria, England. The complexly crystallised Calcite crystals measure up to 2.7 cm and make-up a perfect small cabinet specimen encapsulating the very essence of why Calcite from this iron mining district is known the world over.
