Sparkling, intermeshed white Dolomite crystals coat the surface of a slender Dolomite stalactite measuring to 10.4 cm from Sunk by Hohentauern in Styria, Austria. Attached to and protruding from its base is a kite-shaped 4.5 cm long plate similarly coated. The Dolomite crystals are a very pure snow white yet the overall specimen adopts a bluish cast. This is probably an optical illusion due the play of light on the crystal faces, but non-the-less, adds to its aesthetic appeal. The entire stalactite and plate have a sparling silky speckled lustre, made so by the differing orientations of the saddle-shaped Dolomite crystals. A thing of beauty!
