Galena
A classic small cabinet specimen from Blackdene mine by the village of Ireshopeburn in Weardale, County Durham. An intergrown and offset growth of bright metallic, dark grey cubo-octahedral Galena crystals, each measuring over 3 cm across. These have formed on small, gemmy purple Fluorite crystals overgrowing white Fluorite. A superb Galena of a form stereotypical of Blackdene mine and ex. Michael P. Cooper collection, former British editor and photographer for The Mineralogical Record and author of books on the minerals of the Caldbeck Fells and the history of British mineral dealers.
