Smithsonite
A bright and vivid lemon-yellow specimen of cadmium-rich Smithsonite from the Sheshodonnell East mine in County Clare, Ireland, a site which has been mostly depleted of this classic yellow material. The translucent yellow Smithsonite occupies the middle area of a grey limestone matrix, with a glistening micro-crystallized botryoidal surface. Many other linear cavities in the specimen are also lined with botryoidal Smithsonite. This Victorian lead mine was worked for only about one year between 1862 and 1863 and the Smithsonite, a zinc carbonate, was left as waste on the mine dumps. This is an excellent cabinet size specimen and of a, now, seldom seen size from the mine.
