Cassiterite Var. WOOD Tin

Unknown Owner
The variety of Cassiterite known as Wood Tin occurs at several localities throughout Cornwall, but the alluvial deposit near the village of Bojewan, 9 km north-west of Penzance, is certainly amongst the most famous. This rather gorgeous specimen is a mass of solid charcoal-black Cassiterite overgrowing a bed of milky-white Quartz crystals, cross-sections of which show throughout the base. The top of this small miniature is formed from undulating drusy mounds to 1.4 cm diameter of mid-chocolate brown, fibrous Cassiterite, giving the Wood Tin structure. A characteristic Wood Tin specimen from the historic tin placers around Sancreed and a highly sought variety from Cornwall.
