Tucson, Arizona, USAA classic specimen of gemmy, water=clear Dolomite from Eugui, Spain, where there are a number of quarries located in the area. This specimen of well formed rhombohedral Dolomite crystals is highly lustrous, with the major crystal measuring to 6 cm on edge. This is surmounted by a superbly gemmy rhombic interpenetrate prism, which as a finishing touch is in turn intergrown with a similar smaller crystal. Several other crystals surround the larger crystal around its base. The accompanying video shows this specimen in white LED light and ultraviolet light. Under UV certain internal zones (more like geometrically bounded volumes) fluoresce a bold cherry red while the remaining parts of the prisms maintain a gemmy transparency even in ultraviolet. The effect is beautiful, stunning and quite unexpected!
