One half of an etched powdery-white granular Quartz matrix is coated and invested with buttery-yellow Native Gold forming hackly plates, intergrown crude crystals and well-crystallised arborescent branches to about 1 cm long. The Gold crystals display many variations of the cubic form and mainly coat underlying sheets of Gold which emerge vertically from the Quartz matrix. This rich specimen is from the famous deposits at Rosia Montana in Romania, a very ancient mining area dating back to the Copper Age.
