Lazulite

Unknown Owner
When the Mineralogical Record's classic Yukon Phosphates special issue was published in 1992 (hard to believe it is almost 30 years ago!) the supply of good specimens from this wonderful locality seemed plentiful. How times change. Now with specimen collecting strictly forbidden, the specimens recovered in the twentieth century are now highly sought. This specimen is a superbly crystallised Lazulite with rich-inky indigo-sapphire blue crystals with a brilliant glassy lustre to 9 mm with occasional clear terminated Quartz crystals here and there. Lazulite is a magnesium-iron-aluminium phosphate. A superb and now quite rarely seen specimen of Lazulite from Rapid Creek in the Dawson Mining District of Yukon, Canada.
