Calcite with Hematite inclusions
Unknown Owner
A tight cluster of elongated scalenohedral Calcite crystals with striated nail-head terminations and brick red Hematite, preferentially included on one side of the merged prisms. The crystals are beautifully formed, translucent with a bright glassy lustre and intricate stepped crystal growth up some prism faces. The largest crystal measures 6.5 cm from the base. A great cabinet display specimen from Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, England. Although not recorded with this specimen, it is most probably from the famous Stank mine as Calcite from here often has characteristic inclusions of red Hematite. This lovely old-time specimen is accompanied with three labels, one, Lawrence H. Conklin of New York.
