An off-matrix, highly distorted flat hexagonal Calcite crystal from Winterstock at G'scheneralp in the G'schenen Valley of Uri, Switzerland. The Winterstock is a 3,203 m high mountain in the Urner Alps, located west of Realp in the canton of Uri. This highly unusual Calcite crystal measures 6.0 x 2.8 x 0.5 cm and its hexagonal habit is elongated with its two long edges measuring 4.3 and 4.6 cm respectively. The crystal body is snow-white with a frosted texture and silky lustre, with a more colourless, 2 mm wide outer rim of glassy Calcite and brighter lustre. A very different and rare habit of Calcite from Switzerland.
