Calcite
A wonderful group of colourless Calcite crystals to 3 cm, the locality of which has only been recorded as West Cumberland, but it is typical of specimens from Bigrigg mine, a little north of Egremont. An 8 mm thick plate of Hematite-rich microcrystalline matrix is encrusted with colourless Calcite crystals of 1 to 3 mm laying flat over the matrix surface. Over these emerge over ten complexly developed and beautifully terminated transparent crystals of colourless Calcite of between 1.0 and 3.4 cm tall. A terrific example of complex Calcite crystals that can only be from the iron mines of West Cumbria.\n
