Aragonite
A splendid crystallised Aragonite from the Wanlockhead mines in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, now part of Dumfries and Galloway. Sharp, needle-like acicular crystals of translucent creamy Aragonite, typically 1 cm tall, cover a matrix of mixed Calcite and metallic sulphides. A degree of iron staining lends an orange-tan tint to some crystals. Please note, many crystals are cleaved with their terminations missing but given the scale, such damage does not distract from an otherwise rare and excellent Aragonite from Wanlockhead. Some areas of the Aragonite fluoresce pale creamy yellow under LWUV light, although the majority tends to be non-fluorescent.
