Tucson, Arizona, USAStrontianite from Oberdorf an der Laming in Styria, Austria, is without any doubt some of the absolute best for the species in the world. The size and quality of the crystals sets extremely high standards which most other localities find impossible to attain, let alone surpass. This specimen, probably best described as a large miniature, is a conical spray of densely-packed, radial Strontianite crystals that fan out to form a smooth domed surface of glassy burnt-orange terminated crystals. The Strontianite grades in colour to a bluish-white at its base. There is no matrix associated save for some small Calcite crystalline groups attached to the one side and even some of these could be a purer white habit of Strontianite. This is a beautiful and magnificent example of the species.
