Description
If you are looking for a worldclass Bustamite crystal then this might just be for you. From the famous Milton Lavers Broken Hill collection, this 8.5 cm long doubly-terminated prismatic Bustamite crystal on Calcite matrix heralds from the Zinc Corporation Mine at Broken Hill. Bustamite was one of the principal manganese silicate minerals at Broken Hill where it occurred in several of the mines in worldclass crystals, but the larger the crystal size, the more heavily fractured they became. These mines produced remarkable crystallized specimens during the 1960s and 1970s but good material has been sparse in recent years. This crystal displays the characteristic natural rounded form with one end showing preferential crystal growth on one edge, but the whole crystal is complete all round. Compared with photographs of Bustamite crystals in the Broken Hill books this specimen is ginormous. A truly spectacular crystallized specimen of an Australian classic with great heritage.
