Lustrous prismatic crystals of Smithsonite from Berg Aukas mine in the Grootfontein District of Namibia, measuring to 1.9 cm, form an open cluster on a Dolomite matrix. The crystals range from translucent to near-gemmy golden-tan and around the base much smaller, colourless rhombohedral crystals occur. The specimen clearly shows the gradual transformation from near-perfect small rhombohedral crystals to their tall, extended and distorted habit, whereby the rhombohedral faces form the terminations of the tall crystals. An excellent Smithsonite from the iconic Berg Aukas mine.
