Calcite TWIN
Unknown Owner
A classic twinned Calcite from Egremont, large miniature in size and very displayable. This Calcite is termed a 'heart-twin' and is iconic to the West Cumberland iron ore mines. Colourless, gemmy and very lustrous, with well-formed striated termination faces this is a really fine example. Unusually, the twin has two prismatic Calcite crystals attached into it on one side, these are equally colourless and gemmy. The exact mine is unknown, but the majority of twinned Calcites from West Cumberland originated from Gillfoot mine adjacent to, and partly beneath, the town of Egremont. I have seen numerous examples of this habit over the years and without any doubt this is a magnificent specimen.
