Kutnohorite, a rare calcium manganese carbonate, is perhaps one of the lesser known minerals to be associated with the classic ore deposits at the Broken Hill mines in New South Wales, Australia. Good specimens are known from North mine at Broken Hill and this particular one can only be described as a real beauty! Superb plumes of delicate pale salmon-pink Kutnohorite contrast nicely against the mid to dark grey Galena-rich matrix. Kutnohorite from Broken Hill can be soft and friable, but these characteristically floret-habit crystals are robust with sharp acicular structures and perfect, undamaged terminations. Individual florets are typically 2 cm tall by 2 cm across at their broadest point. A really excellent specimen and from the famous Milton Lavers Broken Hill suite.
