A classic heart-shaped twinned Calcite from the Gillfoot mine, Egremont. The Calcite is essentially colourless and gemmy but with slightly frosted, faintly striated faces. Goethite inclusions create a deep brown filigree of dendritic growth on one lower edge. These extremely unusual twinned crystals were mostly collected during the late 19th century when the West Cumbrian iron mines were most active. This one comes with a great historical background. Accompanied by labels from H.A. Ford (Cambridge, Mass., USA) and then recorded by labels from Secured Minerals (Cumbria, England) and Lindsay Greenbank as having passed to another unknown collector in April 1944. A large and well-formed heart shaped twin Calcite from the heart of the West Cumberland Iron Ore Field. Considering its age, it is in fine condition, with just the slightest of abrasions on its edges.
