NATIVE Gold
This beautiful smaller display specimen of Native Gold is a classic from the area of Romania formerly known as Transylvania. It presents the iconic wafer-thin leaf-gold style of Native Gold for which this region is famed from the very earliest days of mineral collecting. Small (3 to 4 mm) papery thin leaves of exceptionally bright golden metallic Native Gold interlock to form a beautiful 2.8 x 1.5 cm 'island' raised up upon one side of the display face of a porous white Quartz vein which is itself attached to a siliceous rock matrix disseminated with Sphalerite and Pyrite. The Native Gold crystals are delicate but undamaged and have some tiny white needle-like Quartz microcrystals rising up amongst them. It is stunning under magnification. Its provenance is from the 450 Level at Boldut mine, indicating that perhaps this is a more modern piece rather than a centuries-old specimen, but it is nevertheless a perfect example of the classic form of Native Gold from this famous eastern European area, and at a respectable price. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection.
