A small miniature Hematite with a lovely botryoidal habit from the West Cumberland Iron Field in Cumbria, England. Cumberland is the former name of the county of Cumbria, although Cumbria does include boundary changes. This habit was referred to by miners as Kidney Ore and this specimen displays an original semi-reflective patina with the Hematite a deep mahogany brownish-red. The underside shows the structure of the Hematite beautifully with a light dusting of specular Hematite crystals.
