Smithsonite
Skorpion mine at Rosh Pinah, Namibia is an important modern zinc mine and also a modern classic occurrence for mineral specimens, although the numbers of specimens recovered were never high and the mine entered care and maintenance in 2020. This really fine cabinet-sized display specimen consists of a slightly concave display surface coated entirely with a finely crystallized crust of colourless bladed Hemimorphite crystals. Upon this scattered lustrous snow-white Smithsonite crystals form botryoidal areas to 3.3 x 2.3 cm, and as rice grain crystals to 0.8 cm. Compared to others from this mine it is far more aesthetic and has no obvious damage. Ex Eike Pätz collection.
