Coral-like growths of lustrous creamy-white Calcite completely hide a small underlying pale flesh-pink carbonate matrix. From the Upper Adit Level of the Trusty Friend mine at Middleton by Wirksworth in Derbyshire, the Calcite forms delicate looking feathery plumes. Contrary to its appearance, the Calcite crystals are sturdy and can be handled without incurring any damage.
