Tucson, Arizona, USAAn interesting and rare Marcasite pseudomorph after Calcite from Axbridge Hill in the Mendip Hills of Somerset, England, but not a contender for the most aesthetic specimen! The Marcasite, probably mixed with Pyrite, forms a partly hollow crude cone after a scalenohedral Calcite crystal. This was collected from the spoil heap of an old ochre mine near to an old quarry on Axbridge Hill. The specimen has an overall coating of orange-buff ochre with an earthy to glossy lustre. This unusual specimen probably won’t win you either the Desautels or Lidstrom trophy, but you can be sure none of your fellow collector friends will possess anything remotely like it!
