Calcite
White 'nail head' crystals of Calcite measuring to 3.7 cm across the termination faces present a wonderful example of this distinctive crystal habit seen from the Alston Moor area of the North Pennines. This fine small cabinet-sized display specimen is from Tynebottom mine near Garrigill in Alston Moor, Cumbria. During the late 20th century this mine was well-known for producing Calcite crystals of this form, but similar crystals are seen in early 19th century collections containing Northern English minerals. Ex Keith Snell Collection, no. M 427, accompanied by both his handwritten and printed labels.
