Hematite Pseudomorph After Calcite
A superb and highly unusual specimen of Hematite pseudomorphing after Calcite from the Harz region of Lower Saxony, Germany. Sharp, steeply terminated hexagonal former Calcite crystals to 6 cm tall are replaced with finely divided granular Hematite. The Hematite produces smooth yet striated crystal faces which vary in colour from deep blackish-purple to a dark reddish-purple with an occasional earthy pink patina. The intergrown crystals are sharply terminated, although the two dominant crystals have slight damage to their tips. A wonderful pseudomorph from the Archduke Stefan Collection.
