Calcite
This transparent nail head Calcite crystal is clearly from the Banana Slide, an extensive fault zone part of which is intersected by the Beckermet mine, close to the West Cumbrian town of Egremont. A single diagonally cleaved colourless Calcite crystal has a perfect nail head termination with trigonal symmetry, smooth faces and a bright glassy lustre. Finely divided inclusions of Hematite colour the base of the crystal cloudy blood to brick red. The colourless section of the prism is also included with black inclusions. A charming small miniature Calcite from Beckermet mine.
