Mottramite with Calcite
Unknown Owner
Mottramite with red Calcite was one of many classic Tsumeb discoveries! There were never many specimens of this combination and this small miniature is particularly good. The sparkling, almost velvety dark olive-green Mottramite matrix is partially overgrown with lustrous, deep orange red Calcite crystals which owe their colour to Minium inclusions. Minium, a lead tetroxide, is a rarely encountered species at Tsumeb and when included in Calcite produces the most aesthetic specimens. Around its edges, beautiful cross-sections of Mottramite are revealed as bright pistachio-green bands and druses. Please note, the base of this specimen has been sawn flat.
