Wulfenite
Unknown Owner
An amazing specimen composed entirely of Wulfenite, forming both the matrix and the crystal encrusted surface. From the Helena mine at Črna (Črna na Koroškem) in the Mežica (Miess) district of Slovenia, the specimen appears as if only made of Wulfenite crystals as the base is so thin and completely hidden. The Wulfenite forms square, tabular crystals, typically 0.8 to 1.8 cm on edge and in parallel groups of 3 to 7 tablets, which create complex, castellated edges. The colour varies from tangerine-orange edges to creamy pale yellow body centres. The Wulfenite is glassy and lustrous, although all crystals have a rough, micro-crystallised texture to their outer faces. An excellent Wulfenite from Mežica.
Origin: Helena Mine, Crna (Schwarzenbach), Mežica (Miess), Slovenia
