Herkimer Diamonds require little introduction as being a variety of Quartz found in the Herkimer region of New York State, USA. Typically, the Quartz forms double-terminated stubby crystals with two back-to-back terminations and no prism body. They are also often reasonably small - certainly below 1 or 2 cm. Occasionally large crystals are discovered and better still, these may be joined to form clusters. And so we arrive at this truly stunning cabinet specimen formed from seven individual joined Quartz crystals, ranging from completely transparent and gemmy to crazed and translucent. The two largest crystals measure approximately 5 and 6 cm across at their widest points and all contain sparsely disseminated black inclusions. This amazing specimen takes Herkimer Diamonds to a whole new level and will certainly make a delightful and thought-provoking addition to any collection.
