NATIVE Copper
A heavy, matrix-free cabinet specimen of crystallised Native Copper from the world famous mines in Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA. This is probably the world's most famous copper mining district, especially for its spectacular specimens of Native Copper. Weighing in at 0.666 kg, a string of inter-connected Copper crystals forms a crude letter 'J', with Native Copper crystals branching out from either side. The specimen has a classic overall patina of matt caramel chocolate-brown with darker patches and micro-patches of copper carbonate, as either in-situ malachite or post-mining verdigris. The Native Copper crystals attain 4 cm in length and many show well defined faces. A showy Native Copper from Upper Peninsular (UP) country.
