Taff's Well Quarry, close to Cardiff in Wales, is renowned for its magnificent Calcite crystals and most British collections will certainly contain at least one specimen. However, this example is markedly different in that the joined tips of two light tan scalenohedral crystals are coated in a secondary overgrowth of snow-white Calcite which only show the underlying Calcite along their alternating narrow faces, so forming a Mercedes-Benz triangular pattern. A very different, interesting and attractive Calcite from Taff's Well.
