Description

The mining district around Kr'sno in the Horn' Slavkov district of the Czech republic was a tin-tungsten deposit which can boast over 130 mineral species and is type locality to five. This is one of commoner but most important species, Cassiterite and what a specimen it is. Ex. matrix, a tight cluster of jet-black Cassiterite crystals with a superb, bright metallic lustre form a small but showy miniature. Examination reveals several twinned crystals, with all crystals having smooth and gently undulating surfaces yet razor-sharp edges. The largest crystal extends over the full width of the specimen at a rather massive and delicious 4.0 cm. A really fabulous crystallised Cassiterite from Kr'sno.
